Stories of Slavery and Freedom: Manumissions in Anne Arundel County during the Late 18th Century

Another very informative lecture at Linthicum Walks! Dr. Sydney Van Morgan and Qingxi Wang, a professor and student at Johns Hopkins University shared the beginning stages of a project to determine how slaves in Anne Arundel County were freed. The discussion was centered around individuals enslaved at White's Hall and Linthicum Walks in the Crofton area who were freed prior to 1864 when Maryland made slavery illegal. We are looking forward to working with Dr. Van Morgan's team to learn more about the people enslaved at Linthicum Walk; their identities, how they lived, and how they obtained their freedom. We ultimately would like to find descendants of these families.
